Responding to Voter Questions: Sanctuary State

A voter stated:

How do feel about the Sanctuary State status of California?

My Response:

I'm a firm believer in states rights and the 10th Amendment. I think that a state or locality can decide which laws it will enforce.

I'm an advocate of open boarders. I believe that the rights protected by the constitution are human rights - not American rights. I believe that no matter where a human was born, they deserve freedom to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We should not be closing our borders to those who are looking for those basic rights.

However, we don't have enough money and resources to help the entire world. I don't think states or localities should provide financial assistance or services to those who have not gone through the legal process to be here. Basically, if you are
undocumented, but you are taking care of yourself and your family: I don't care and I don't want to see our government spending time and resources enforcing immigration laws.
